Adventures with Anna Marie!
Anna Marie has just returned from a two week vacation to Italy. This time around she had more time to enjoy the sensational sights, scenes and sounds at her leisure. 'Each day was better than the next' Anna Marie says of her adventure. She also says 'what's good about Italy is the same as what's bad.' The food is very regional, and it's possible to have too much of a good thing sometimes. Here in Canada we're so used to having 20 different cuisines within one block and e're so used to fusion cuisines. Italy is the complete opposite. Anna was also reminded just how large Canadian portions are in comparison to those served in Italy. And surprisingly there wasn't a lot of meat served as part of the main meal - rather keeping it to the antipasto plate. Everywhere she went restaurants would serve amazing olive oils and she was encouraged to drizzle the olive oil over meat dishes. All in all, a fabulous trip!
Winter warmer recipe
Try this for a great inter warming recipe. Not only is it delicious and a great rib spreader, it's also really simple to boot.
Maple Syrup Dumplings
1 cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. soft butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup of milk
2 cups maple syrup
1 cup water
Mix maple syrup (available in-store) and water together in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Mix dry ingredients and cut in butter. Then add milk to form dough. Make small dough balls the size of a golf ball and drop into the boiling syrup. Then cover and simmer at reduced heat for 20 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream. Yum!
