PASQUALE BROS. DOWNTOWN LTD. carries cheeses from 15 different countries.
After 85 years, our company has witnessed a lot of changes in the food industry. In the beginning, our
founder, Edward Pasquale Sr., would hand-pack olive oil in the back room of his store and deliver it by streetcar. Since then, Pasquale Bros Downtown Ltd. has become synonymous with fine quality foods - wholesale and retail.
In 1969, when the format of the company changed (focusing on the downtown core of Toronto),
our slogan became "YOUR DOWNTOWN CHEESE CENTRE".
From these humble beginnings, over the years we have grown to a warehouse of 16,000 sq. feet, three
delivery vans and eleven employees. Expanding to more than just Mediterranean foods, a larger cheese counter was installed in 1969 to reflect the growing selection of Canadian fine cheeses.
Now servicing over 400 restaurants and food establishments, we continue to run our retail store in order to maintain direct contact with our knowledgeable clientele. Mediterranean specialties have always been our product base, but cheeses, both Canadian and imported, are becoming increasingly popular.
Twelve years ago, our previous president, John Kalcevich, registered the "JULIUS" and "PASQUALES" trademarks. Our customers are instantly aware of the care that went into the selection of these products.
Among the items that proudly wear our label are: goat cheese, emmenthal, bocconcini, mozzarella, feta, fiore de latte (all Canadian); olive oil, balsamic vinegar, pimentoes, tomatoes, and artichokes.
From that first cheese counter of 40 varieties we now have on display almost 200 cheeses. The imported cheeses go hand-in-hand with our wonderful Canadian selection - a perfect combination for a memorable dining experience, either dining out or in the comfort of your own home.
Pasquale Bros Downtown Ltd. has been at the forefront of providing quality ingredients to Canada as well as fostering the Canadian cheese industry.
